I have not yet decided to wander across the border between Cake Land and our very close and totally fabulous neighbors, Cookie World.
Truth is, I’m sceered.
Cookie decorating, like almost every other craft out there, is NO joke.
I have watched some of the great cookie artists in action enough to know that to do it well is…
And yet there’s this part of my brain (or maybe it’s my heart) that wakes up every once in a great while and whispers ever so softly, “You want to learn the art of cookie decorating. So stop pretending you don’t. Stop it.”
(Sometimes it’s actually yelled at full lung capacity. It depends upon the day.)
So when THE Marta Torres of The Cookie Lab (whose absolutely and utterly gorgeous work you are viewing in this blog post) agreed to come onto a live session with us over on Cakeheads.com and demonstrate how she uses the dimensional royal icing technique to create her works of art,
I nearly squealed aloud and peed my pants at the same time.
(While sitting at my computer…which would have totally ruined my pretty new desk chair I just recently bought.
Glad I still have some bladder control action left in me.)
she created one of her gorgeous cookie masterpieces in front of our very eyes,
we learned (and swooned),
and my brain-heart shouted, “Now try it!! Now! N.O.W.”
And while I don’t always listen to my brain-heart when I should,
and while I know it will take much practice to even scratch the surface of the beauty of this cookie Marta created,
I may just dive on in and give it a shot.
‘Cause watching Marta makes me feel like I’ve got a fighting chance.
So time to get my robe out and my gloves on.
You can just call me Rocky. 🙂
(Aaaaand I’ll let you know how it goes in the ring. Maybe.) Xx
