I fell in love with this photo the second I saw it.
The colors are gorgeous, yes. They way they work together is breathtaking.
And the flowers are simple beauty. Of course, flowers usually are.
But it’s what this picture SAYS more than how it looks that really gets me.
I know we won’t all see it the same (and I don’t think that we’re all meant to, for which I am grateful), but when I look at that little snapshot, I see something very big.
I see us.
Covered in cracks.
All of us.
It’s truth that each and every single solitary person who walks this earth is “cracked” somehow… imperfect.
We may be cracked all over, or we may just have a few spider cracks here and there… but we’ve all got them, one way or another.
Some of us are good at hiding them, and others couldn’t cover them up if they tried.
Either way, we’re usually ashamed of them… wishing they weren’t there.
Wishing we were perfectly smooth.
But…I don’t know.
It seems some pretty amazing things can come from our imperfections if we let them.
Some pretty beautiful things.
If we were all perfect, would we know the same joy in our victories… when we finally accomplish the thing we’ve shed blood, sweat and tears for?
If we were all perfect, what would creativity look like? Would anything seem “special” anymore? Different?
And… would we really need each other in this life if we were all without flaws?
Imagine if that picture was instead a solid, smooth piece of concrete.
But compared to the cracked one… the flawed one with gorgeous things growing through it’s imperfections?
It doesn’t hold a candle.
The one with the cracks isn’t perfect the way we might think it’s supposed to be.
But then… somehow… it’s infinitely more beautiful.
So maybe we need to stop trying to get rid of the cracks.
Maybe they’re ok.
Maybe… they’re what make us beautiful.
You know. Just sayin’. Xx
